Home Notes

Empowering homeowners with practical project management skills to turn home renovation plans into reality.

The brief

Architects Poulsom Middlehurst want to empower homeowners in managing their home-build projects.

In an industry where the client often ends up spending more than they’d budgeted, their talks and workshops are designed to clue us up on how to complete work on time and on budget.

Their system proved so effective they decided to transform their offering into an online course.

Our role

We kicked things off with a brand workshop with Amy and Jane, facilitating discussion around their vision and mission, and how they’d like Home Notes to evolve.

We then helped them map out and build the initial phase of their digital offering through a learning management system.

Their workshops are for the often-overlooked domestic projects where there simply aren’t £100k+ budgets, and where an overspend is a big deal. Their audience is design-savvy but wanting to achieve their ideal home on a realistic budget.

Direction

Full of ideas from the meeting we developed several approaches to a new visual identity. The one chosen celebrated calm amongst the chaos of a building site, by referencing real-world stationery and speaking of the ‘safe space to learn’ that Home Notes offered.

A system of graphic elements including learning curves and cheery colours were applied to build in flexibility for print and website development.

We fleshed out the learning platform’s workflow and system architecture. From there we were able to determine an appropriate tech stack to marry the course with a membership offering. Once that was in place we brought in the graphic system to inform the platform’s visual identity.

The outcome

The new identity is now used across Home Notes’ printed work and on their learning management platform. We helped them through the strategy, planning and design phases of their digital offering which then went onto launch as an exciting space filled with courses and video tutorials on home renovations.
